Merlin Amigurumi
Hello Knitty Kitty

I made a doll based on the title character in BBC's Merlin.

Merlin doll

Merlin doll closeup

ETA: Per crafty_shanna's request, here's a closeup of how I made the hair. I cut a circle of felt out and then cut little "zigzags" out all around the circle. Then I used an overcast stitch to sew the felt onto the head. You can sort of see the stitches below (sorry for the poor picture quality).

I'm really happy with the way he turned out. I've never sewn clothes for my amis before, so it was a tiny bit of a challenge. Fortunately, it didn't take long at all to make his little jacket. I did it during my lunch break at work. ;) One more pic and more details here at my journal.

Very cute!! Are you going to do more characters from the show? :)

Thanks. I think Merlin's probably the easiest one to do, which is why I did him. Haha! We'll see — I wouldn't rule it out. ;)

AWW MERLIN!!!! I think you need to make Arthur now. Or Uther. OR GWEN.

Okay, I'll stop. XD

I'd love to make a pal for Merlin in the form of Arthur. :) But I'd have to sit and think about how I would make chain mail and armor. I have a few ideas, though.

Oh, see, I hadn't thought about the fact that Arthur is often in his armor. I was thinking more of his prince-ly non armor clothes. ...and that made no sense whatsoever.

Like this:
or this:

That'd be significantly easier than chain mail. Though if you do figure it out, it'd be amazing. I really want to try making the whole lot of them now, lol

Brb...drooling over those pics you posted of Arthur. ♥‿♥
But, yeah, I thought of his non-battle clothes too. I just really dig Arthur in armor & chain mail. ;)

Lmao! Yeah, he's kinda like, smokin' hot hee.

The only thing I'm coming up with for chain mail is if you strung a bunch of jump rings together and made it that way. That might be cool.

Yeah, he's kinda like, smokin' hot hee.
Umm...YES. I wholly agree with that comment. ;D
I've come up with a few ideas in the past few days for Arthur — now I really want to make him! After I do some other non-character amis first.

That is all. :D

Haha...thanks for the comment. :) I adore Merlin too.
I never get tired of that video your icon is based on. "Whoaaaaaa..."

omg he's precious! ♥

Thank you! ♥
(OT, but...Glee!!!)

Aww, he's so cute! I love what you did with the felt.

Thanks! The felt was an experiment that turned out well. :)

Ahh! Really cute!!! Well done. The feltwork looks perfect, the bangs on his forehead, scarf and little jacket! Ha, ha. Ears. The little smile. :D Will you be doing others too? Arthur? :D

Thanks so much! I think the ears really make it Merlin. I've never made people ears before, but it was necessary for this doll. ;D I'd like to do Arthur...but I'd need to plan that one well to ensure it turns out right. All that armor!

Aw, that is really cute! :) Great work on his clothes too, did you use felt?

Thank you. :) Yup, just little pieces of acrylic felt for the clothes and hair.

That is fab! I love it and love the series too. :D

I love Merlin! I'm glad you like the doll...and the series as well. ;)

Don't know the show, but your doll is amazing... Very neat finish and the clothes are so realistic! Great job!!! <3

The show is fantastically funny, adventure-packed, romantic, sad...I'll stop myself now. I don't work for the BBC. LOL.
Glad you like the doll. :) Thanks for commenting!

This is one of the best dolls I've seen! His hair is amazing. I was trying to get a closer look at it so I could see how you did it. Can you post a close up and tell us what you did?

Great job on the clothes, too. He is really super!!!

Thank you very much. ♥ That's such a nice compliment. I'm really happy the hair turned out looking pretty good. I edited my post so you can see the detail (sort of) on the hair.

Cool! Thanks for posting the hair pic. You must have used "good" wool felt as opposed to the crappy stuff I use because it looks much nicer and more solid than any of the felt I've ever tried to attach!

And I don't think I mentioned before how cute his little ears are! :D

No, I used the cheap kind. It stretched really well to fit the shape of his head. I just had to be careful when sewing it on so it wouldn't fall apart later.

Thanks! I really like the ears too. I'm glad you like 'em. :)

Thanks! I think I want to try making more people amigurumi so I can practice improvising tiny clothes made out of felt. :D

Very cute!

A friend has asked me to make her a Merlin and an Arthur. Your Merlin will be my inspiration! :)

Thank you. :)
I hope you'll post pictures of your finished amis!

Know nothing 'bout the series, but I'm in love with this Merlin-gurumi :D

Thanks! I'm happy you like him even if you don't know who he is. ;)

This is so utterly adorable. <3 I love his HUGE head. His little felt belt is such a cute detail.

I always like making HUGE heads for my amigurumi. 。^__^。I'm glad you like the little details. Thanks! (PS: cute icon!)

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. ♥ ♥ ♥ That's amazingly well done!

Thank you very much. :o)
